What to know
Since late 2025, images downloaded from midjourney.com embed the prompt (with parameters and a Job ID) in the file’s Description metadata field. If you have such a download, the prompt is right there in the file. Batch and single downloads carry the same metadata.
Older downloads (from before that change) have no embedded metadata. For those — and for any image where the metadata was stripped — the path back is the Job ID: it often appears in the filename as a UUID and maps to the generation in your midjourney.com history, where the full prompt is stored.
How to recover it

Check the file’s embedded metadata first
Upload the original download to the Midjourney Metadata Inspector; recent downloads carry the full prompt in the Description field.

Find the Job ID
If the prompt is not embedded, look for the Job ID (a UUID) in the filename or metadata — it identifies the exact generation.

Match it in your Midjourney history
Search your generation history on midjourney.com for that Job ID to retrieve the full original prompt and parameters.
