When Midjourney embeds this value, it signals to any metadata-aware system that the image was produced by a trained model rather than captured by a camera or created manually.

The critical limitation is that IPTC metadata is unsigned — anyone with basic tools can strip or modify it. This matters for EU AI Act Article 50 compliance, which requires AI-generated content to be labeled in a way that is "machine-readable" and resistant to removal.
